A Simple Cage Plan

“Movement Prep. Bat Path/Direction. Game Plan.”

Step 1: Movement Prep

Prime the CNS. Play a game. SpikeBall is my go-to. Throw a medicine ball for acceleration and deceleration. Use a water bag for balance and body control. Incorporate some resisted movements with bands or cables to overload positions. Prepare the body to move quickly and efficiently.

Step 2: Bat Path & Direction

Tee work and front toss should be strictly for path work. Low intensity, high intent. Grooving a consistent path to all pitch locations. Main focus should be to stay above and inside the ball.

Step 3: Game Plan

Keep the intensity low, but the intent high. Speed and spin should be seen multiple times a week. Machine work is the best in my opinion. FB and BB from the right and left side. If not, normal BP works too. Have the “pitcher” throw multiple speeds from the windup and stretch to challenge timing. If neither is an option, simulated games off the tee are better than nothing. Create situations in your head and just pitch locations. To simulate a BB, move the tee out in front.
